Firefigher paramedic
The rising need for firefighter paramedic
Firefighter/Paramedic are the first people you see in areas where tragedies have struck. They are the first
people who rush head on upon a 911 emergency call. These are the people whose first duty is to save life.
Having a profession of firefighter paramedic is cool in other people’s eyes. It’s one of the most highly
respected and sought after career. Yet, a lot of people don’t understand the danger the firefighter paramedics get
themselves into. Saving lives of another person may cause firefighter paramedics their lives. A firefighter
paramedic should have the toughest and most rigid training of all in order to avoid being hit by accidents
Firefighter paramedics are needed these days in many metropolitan places. Firefighter needs to be certified
emergency medical technicians too. There are departments in bigger cities that need paramedic certifications from
these firefighters, even if fire departments have a very low level of certification requirement.
There are departments in some states where training in fire academy is involved. However, some states are also
requiring their prospected staff to have Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-Basic) before applying to a fire
academy.
Firefighter paramedic is becoming a trend these days. Being a firefighter can go together with being a
paramedic. They can also be two independent careers. But, nonetheless, they are both very fulfilling and rewarding
jobs. Firefighters usually need to go to firefighting and paramedic programs and trainings. This is one of the
requirements on applying at a fire department.
Firefighting and being a paramedic have two different certifications: firefighter II and I goes for the
firefighter and paramedic certification for the paramedic training.
There are differences and similarities from both programs. But both programs can also lead to each other and one
can become a firefighter paramedic. Here are the definition, differences and similarities of both programs and
their trainings:
A firefighting program requires a lot of physical trainings. Those who are training to become firefighters are
preparing to always be ready to respond to whatever emergency calls. Putting out fires, using fire hydrants, hose
and climbing ladders requires fire science training. Those who are interested in becoming a firefighter will learn
to find way in and enter a burning building. They will also learn how to rescue people who are trapped inside the
burning area and administer basic life support. The training is very difficult. Yes. It is hot and gritty dirty. A
lot of people give up on it. But, the rough training makes the students become excellent in saving lives.
The paramedic training, on the other hand, knows how to handle patients. Most of the time people who call 911
are not always in fire emergencies but medical emergencies. With a paramedic on board, these patients will be given
the proper health care. Paramedics can do these basic healthcares while transporting the patient in an ambulance to
the hospital. That is why it is important for a fighter to have the skills of a paramedic too. In the pre-hospital
trainings, being a paramedic is the highest type of training. That is why being a firefighter paramedic is very
important in the fire department and other emergency departments.
